Q: Does ASREC of Cal State Northridge fully fund the clubs?
A: The sport clubs program is partially funded by the Associated Students at CSUN. Additional funding is obtained through fundraising events and activities as well as alumni and corporate contributions. Team members may also be required to pay yearly dues, which help to offset the cost of team travel, equipment, uniforms, and officiating expenses.
Q: What kind of club sports teams does Cal State Northridge offer?
A: Our program sponsors men’s, women’s, and co-recreational teams in sports ranging from Jazz to Water Polo to ice hockey. Check out our List of Clubs to find out whether we have your sport.
Q: I don’t see my sport on the list. How can I start a team?
A: First, it’s a good idea to gauge student interest in your club. Once you’ve established that people are interested, you must meet with the Sport Club Coordinator to discuss the procedures for becoming a Sport Club. After you have met with the SC Coordinator you must attend the New Club Workshop in the M atador I nvolvementC enter located on the east side of the USU. Here, you will receive information on how to become a student organization. If there is interest in a club that was once active, you may re-charter the club.
Q: I am not a CSUN student; can I still join a club?
A : Due to insurance limitations, at this time only CSUN students, faculty and staff may participate in Sport Clubs.
Q: How often do sport clubs practice & compete?
A: The number of weekly practices and competitions vary widely for each club. Some clubs practice up to 5 days a week, compete every weekend, while others practice just one day a week, and compete once a semester. You can contact the Club that you are interested in to find out specific practice and competition information.
Q: How much does it cost to participate in a sport club?
A: Most clubs require that members pay annual or semester dues. Some clubs also require specific equipment that may cause members to incur additional expenses. Costs vary widely for each club, so contact the Club to find out specific information and to discuss special circumstances.
Q: What kind of leadership opportunities exist for me in the Sport Club program?
A: Sport clubs provide students excellent leadership opportunities. Most clubs have a full slate of officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer). Some clubs also have additional officers depending on the needs of their organization. Additionally, all sport club members are eligible to run for a position on the Sport Club Executive Council (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer). The program also provides members with the opportunity to participate in special recreation projects and/or committees.
