As the nation’s largest geographical city, Los Angeles faces a collection of concerns that touch every corner of its 468 square miles. Traffic, infrastructure, public safety, business, education, transportation, and even a professional football team are at the proverbial tip of the city’s iceberg-size issues. The city will be electing a new mayor to manage, govern and lead. This event has been designed to partner with the “Talking About Los Angeles” mayoral series while wrapping up CSUN’s Big Politics with a focus on local government. Jan Perry will share thoughts and solutions for Los Angeles leadership. Come join the conversation about Los Angeles and the city’s next Mayor. Results of Survey at Earth Fair 2012

Environmental Affairs Committee (EAC) conducted a survey at Earth Fair 2012, April 18^th, and distributed more than 900 Chico Bags among the participants. EAC wanted to make assessment of their educational campaign as well as getting students input for some of the environmental issues that CSUN is currently struggling with. The survey was consist of 15 questions designed to get students input in 3 main areas, Plastic Bags issue, Commuting issue and Water Bottles issue. Here is the results for some of the questions in the survey. Based on the results of this survey EAC will try to create a strategic plan to tackle these issues. Associated Students at California State University, Northridge will host a congressional debate, April 30th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., as a part of “Big Politics – The Series”. Held in the Valley Performing Arts Center’s Great Hall, the debate will include the four leading candidates competing for the 30th Congressional District seat: Howard Berman (D), Brad Sherman (D), Mark Reed (R), and Susan Shelley (R). Host and lead moderator for the event is alumnus and KFI Radio Host, Bill Handel. Tickets will be available beginning April 16th for the CSUN campus (CSUN ID required). Any tickets remaining as of April 23rd will be made available to the general public.

Big Politics Series: State Discussion

This event has been designed to engage and inform the community on an array of competing problems that state officials are seeking to resolve. Invited guests will share their current plans and ideas to solve issues such as budget cuts, sustainability, business environment, education, and the future of California. Come join the discussion to find solutions for California’s concerns. California faces an uphill battle. The California State University system has undergone budget cuts of $750 million while the state struggles to meet a multitude of other pressing challenges. The Golden State’s people are asking questions, and CSUN is looking to provide a forum for answers.
